As Tom Burghardt summed it up: “During the run-up to the reauthorization of three expiring provisions of the USA Patriot Act, Senator Wyden charged that the administration and FBI were relying on a ’secret’ interpretation of law to vacuum-up exabytes of data, including cell phone location records and internet data mining that target Americans.”
Now Wired is reporting that Senator Wyden’s efforts to get information on this program have failed:
Two Senators have been warning for months that the government has a secret legal interpretation of the Patriot Act so broad that it amounts to an entirely different law — one that gives the feds massive domestic surveillance powers, and keeps the rest of us in the dark about the snooping.
